Hi! I’m Maddie, the eponymous 5’2″ redhead here.
I’m a born-and-bred Chicagoan, a reformed East Coaster and a proud member of the Millennial generation. Always at my back: my wonderful (and handsome!) boyfriend, Ted, and our twelve-pound, cow-spotted cat Koko. (She’s on Facebook. Look her up.) These two are the ones who inspire me to think harder about the home we share together, and dream up a million ways in which we can make it even better.
I launched A Little Ginger in 2009 to document my post-grad attempts at making a home in the world, mostly by sharing my dabbles in cooking and travel. Since then, it’s evolved into a forum for discussing the concept of “home,” and all the issues we’re faced with when building a nest from scratch.
If you’re new here, read this post. It’s a primer on what I write about—the joyful, confusing, messy process of making a home in this world—and why. It explains the organization of this site, too, which is centered around the three concepts of beauty, bounty and business: respectively, the aesthetic, personal, and administrative matters that make up a balanced home life. Each post is preceded by one of the following banners to place it in that context:
From there, start navigating using the tools on the sidebar: the drop-down menus for categories and archives, and the tag cloud, which will help you pull up specific posts about the topic you’re interested in. If you’d like to browse through recipes or travel posts, use the recipe index
and the travel index. And if you’re interested in adding your own voice to the mix, consider writing a guest post about your own wacky, wonderful home life!
I’d love to chat with you or answer questions via e-mail. You can reach me at: alittlegingerblog (at) gmail (dot) com.
